Shaw Strannahan
Marriage and Family Therapist Associate
Master’s in Marriage Family Therapy

Most of us grow up with the hope of good things to come. As the journey of life takes shape however, unforeseen struggles, challenges, and losses might leave a once hopeful person feeling depressed, anxious, grief-stricken, or simply defeated. I've experienced disappointments in my own life and believe that sometimes we need some help along the way to make ourselves spiritually fierce.

I  believe that effective communication is vital to healthy relationships, as well as an understanding of having a full self-concept. I would like to help others find the confidence within to create meaningful and trusting relationships.

As a certified facilitator in the Prepare-Enrich Relationship Program, I  enjoy working with premarital and marital couples.  For many years I worked in the entertainment industry and have an eclectic theoretical framework through a Christian lens. One of my  favorite Bible verses reads: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything" (James 1:2-4, NIV)

My name is Shaw Strannahan and I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in Irvine, CA. I obtained my masters degree from a small Buddhist University in Los Angeles, where I am now an Associate Professor in the Counseling Master's Program. It is my belief that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. As every one of us has a unique story, it’s important to tailor treatment to fit the individual! I do not view people as “broken”, I view them as “stuck”. My goal is to help you get unstuck and assist you in developing strategies to stay unstuck. also have knowledge of how diet and exercise can affect our mental health. I can incorporate this into our treatment plan if it’s of interest to you. My primary areas of focus are:

  • Couples
  • Teens
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Addiction
  • Stress Management
  • Pre-Marital Counseling
  • Healing from Affairs
  • Sexual Concerns
